Birdie has big plans for eighth grade: get a boyfriend, help her best friend Deve find a girlfriend, and finally enjoy the normal middle school experience she craves. But when Deve refuses to follow her carefully calculated plan, their argument spirals into a friendship crisis. Enter Anansi, the mischievous West African trickster god, who promises to make everything right again. Desperate to fix the mess, Birdie makes a wish—but magical solutions rarely come without unexpected consequences! As her wish unfolds in surprising ways, Birdie must navigate friendship troubles, first love, family expectations, and the challenges of growing up. With humor, heart, and a touch of West African mythology, Nashae Jones delivers a delightful coming-of-age story about learning to accept life's uncertainties, communicate honestly, and appreciate the people who matter most.
