Celebrated in late October and early November, The Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) is a festival where family and friends gather to their deceased friends and relations and joyously honor their memories. Here they celebrate their loved ones using calaveras and marigold flowers, building home altars called ofrendas loaded with favorite foods of the departed, and visiting graves with these items as gifts for the deceased as well as gifting items such as candy sugar skulls to the living.
